Byron "Doc" Walthall is a Charlotte Native. Walthall learned how to row at a Craftsbury sculling camp and continued to attend for several years afterwards. Rowing has been his sport for 20 years now.
Prior to rowing, Walthall finished four Ironman Triathlons. He has always stayed active and even challenged himself to a million meters one January. Outside of rowing Walthall is a father of two daughters and now a grandpa! He also enjoys US and international travel with his family and wife Nancy.
Nancy Teaff started rowing at Smith College in 1970, pre-title IX, then transferred to Princeton and did not row again until 1998. Teaff was the first female president of her class at Princeton and is now heavily involved in alumni activities. With Doc, Teaff also attended Craftsbury sculling camps and continued to go to summer camps for the next 17 years.
Teaff has been a successful master rower with some top results:
2018 & 2019-Gold medal in a Mixed Masters 8+ at Head of the Hooch
Gold medal Mixed Masters 8+ USRowing National Race, Augusta, GA
Medaled at Southeast Regionals in women’s 4x, mixed 2x, and mixed 4x.
Teaff has also had some wonderful rowing experiences internationally. She has rowed in Vogalonga in Venice, the Rally du Canal du Midi in southern France, and FISA Crystal Lakes rowing tour in Austria.
Teaff received her degree for UNC school of Medicine in 1978 and was a practicing physician for 34 years. Her hobbies outside of rowing are participating in book club and traveling to place like Antarctica, Machu Picchu, and the Galapagos. Teaff is a member of the Women's Impact Fund, enjoys engaging in philanthropy. Plus spending time with grandchildren!

The Charlotte Youth Rowing Board of Directors volunteer their time and talent to support our organization’s mission. A team is better than any individual.
Board of Directors are elected to one-year terms or longer if they choose to do so. Board service is volunteered, and board members are responsible for several areas of the organization.
